Heritage Trading Card Game Auction Tops $3.4M

Heritage hosted their first Trading Card Games Auction on July 24-25, 2021, and it proved that the TCG market is thriving. The auction bested preauction estimates and had a 100% sell-through rate on its way to a total of $3,473,102.

The auction’s top seller was a Pokémon First Edition Base Set Sealed Booster Box that realized $384,000. The highly coveted base set features 102 cards, including the popular highly-sought Charizard.

“We are thrilled with the results of this auction,” Heritage Trading Card Games Consignment Director Jesus Garcia said. “The popularity and demand for these items dictated a standalone auction, and it more than lived up to the hype. There was more bidding in this auction than in any other, and we welcomed a lot of new bidders at this event.”

Many Pokémon lots bolstered the auction’s total, including a Charizard #4 First Edition Base Set trading card PSA GEM Mint 10 that brought $264,000. A Blastoise #009/165R Test Print “Gold Border” foil CGC 6.5 with a Magic: The Gathering design on the back achieved $216,000. An Unlimited Base Set Booster Box Distributors Case with six sealed booster boxes realized $105,000.

Magic: The Gathering lots were led by the Unlimited Starter Deck Sealed Box that doubled the preauction estimate to sell for $150,000. Other top Magic sales were an Alpha Edition Sealed Starter Deck for $96,000, an Antiquities Edition Sealed Booster Box for $52,800, and a French First Edition Base Set Sealed Booster Box for $45,600.
