Action Comics #1 CGC 9.0 R Sees $452K in ComicConnect Event Auction
ComicConnect sold a copy of Action Comics #1 CGC Apparent 9.0 for $452,000. The comic, which contains the first appearance of Superman, sold during their Event Auction on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
Calling the comic, a “beautifully restored copy,” ComicConnect COO Vincent Zurzolo said, “Investment collectors have bid with clarity and confidence as recent market gains have solidified allowing buyers to move to higher price levels with comfort. It’s a great time to be in the market.”

ComicConnect’s opening auction sessions were comprised of video games, original comic art, pulps, and comics. “We offered another 100 WATA-certified video games and collectors mashed the bid buttons in earnest,” Zurzolo added.

Highlight sales were dominated by NES games like Castlevania Trilogy (NES) WATA 7.5 $11,866, Stadium Events Family Fun (NES) WATA 6.0 $9,624, and Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link (NES) WATA 9.6 $15,700.

Original comic art sales were topped by a Steve Ditko page to Amazing Spider-Man #18 for $133,222, a John Romita page from Amazing Spider-Man #39 for $116,000, a Fantastic Four Annual #2 page by Jack Kirby for $17,105, a Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (1968) page went for $21,600, the cover to Spectacular Spider-Man #24 by Frank Springer for $16,100, and X-Men #152 page 24 by Bob McLeod for $11,200.

In addition to the Action Comics #1, Golden Age highlights include Action Comics #7 CGC 7.0 R for $31,611 and #13 CGC 1.0 for $12,750, All Star Comics #8 CGC 6.5 R for $20,500, All American Comics #19 CGC 6.0 for $16,311, Captain America Comics #74 CGC 4.5 for $12,620, and Batman #40 CGC 9.2 $11,311.

Silver Age highlights were Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 7.0 for $162,000, CGC 4.5 for $51,111, and CGC 3.5 for $44,500, Brave and the Bold #30 CGC 9.4 for $35,000, Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 5.0 for $18,000 and #14 CGC 9.0 for $19,200, Avengers #1 CGC 7.5 for $17,300 and #4 CGC 9.0 for $11,250, and Daredevil #1 CGC 7.0 for $16,155.
