2011

The official companion to the "Atlas At Last!" exhibit at Geppi's Entertainment Museum near Baltimore, Maryland's Inner Harbor. Comic Book Marketplace returns with a special issue devoted to the short, turbulent history of the Atlas-Seaboard line of comics, their unusual staying power in the minds of fans, and their surprising rebirth that started at the 2010 New York Comic Con and continued with three new #1 issues in March 2011.

Ironically and unfortunately, despite the better marketing exposure, a variety of behind-the-scenes problems resulted in the rebirth of Atlas faring no better than its mid-70s incarnation.

This issue includes a full gallery of all the Atlas issues, a survey of the original line, a profile of 30 Days of Night creator Steve Niles’ new take on Wulf, a look back at Atlas founder Martin Goodman’s original Atlas, a market report and more. 32 pages, full color.

A small number of copies of this limited edition variant cover edition of Comic Book Marketplace #1 are now available. Originally available only at the opening of Geppi’s Entertainment Museum’s “Atlas At Last” exhibit and at the 2011 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2).

The variant features for the first time Howard Chaykin’s unpublished original cover for 1975’s The Scorpion #2 in color for the first time, restored by Mark Wheatley (Lone Justice) and Britt Conley and colored by Wheatley. Long held as one of the forgotten gems of Atlas (an Ernie Colon cover was used on the published version of the Atlas issue), this variant was limited to 400 copies total.
